Day 2

So on day 2 after dreaming of shifting it was my turn to drive.  I was much, much better with upshifting, it was smooth enough after I was able to let clutch out slow.  Even my downshifting was 100% better, although that is not saying much.  My trainer told me I was in a close competition with worst shifter he’s ever had to train.  It’s really difficult for me to be on the worst list in anything.  Usually things come so much easier to me.

I drove 9.75 hours on my second day, From mid Illinois to southern Missouri.  Why is that you go south and the weather is worse than in the north?  The northerners have all the equipment for snow and ice and driving is not really an issue.  But this winter has been just winter storm after winter storm hitting the south.  When I saw ice and a car on the side of the road that jumped the guardrail, I was ready to call it a day, but then he had to drive in it.  Just 10 minutes into him driving the interstate was closed and we had to go down a 2 lane highway because there were so many accidents on the interstate.  I was really wanting to get to Memphis so I could take a shower.  We finally got to Memphis about 10pm and I did get to take a shower, I think that might be a good part of being a chick, it was like I had my own bathroom because I was the only one in the women’s restroom.

I slept again like a baby and now I’m sitting here in the Memphis terminal waiting for the truck to get serviced.  When we are ready to go it’s my turn to drive and I’m worried I might have to drive through ice.  We are headed to NC and that is where the storm went through yesterday.  So I guess it’s good to be training in this because winter driving sucks.  And good luck to me.  I’m going to need it shifting and not sliding.  It is also difficult to be out of touch with the internet.  I don’t even remember the last time I went 2 days without getting on the internet.  I am so spoiled.  Oh well, at least I’m making money.
