After traveling around in circles around the country, not even able to remember what city I was in yesterday morning. The only thing I know for sure is where I’m going today to get to the destination. Currently, I’m in Charlotte, NC going up to Buffalo, NY. And we should be there tomorrow morning. The best part of travelling around is meeting other free spirits where we could talk for hours because we have a common bond. I was very lucky at our shipper in SanFranciso, we arrived at 9pm and the place didn’t open until 5:30 am. We sat outside the gate, planned to take a nice quiet nite of no truck moving restful sleep until 5:30.
But I always have an issue. I feel the need to go to the bathroom before bed. So I go up to the guard shack and ask in a very nice way, “can just use the bathroom, I have only one problem in life, I can’t pee standing up.” This gets a laugh and of course he let me in the guard shack sanctuary. After I finish, he starts asking me truck questions about what load we are picking up and he says we are not on the list. I explained him the issue and then I asked him where was he from. He’s from the Philippines and we just started talking and talking. Then the other security guard came in, also a pinoy, and it was like meeting up with old friends. We talked about all sorts of things, my impressions of Philippines and their impressions of America. I even started sharing personal details of my Filipino fiancé, my hopes and wishes for being in that culture. We had such a great lively conversation; it took me away from being Holly the working trucker, to Holly the traveler. Because these are the types of people I love to meet on my travels. They were just fun and positive. I just hope that there are many more of these on my trucking travels through America. Now when I want to travel to San Francisco, I have friends to stay with who will show me a karaoke Filipino party like no other.
So Al and Reymond, I'll see you again when I make it to san fran, and I'm expecting a big karaoke party :)
